To achieve certification each service undergoes a manual technical compliance review against WCAG 2.1 to level AA.

The service underwent both a technical compliance audit and robust end to end testing by users with a wide range of disabilities including blind, low vision, dyslexia, colour blindness, mobility impairments, learning difficulties, Deaf, Asperger and anxiety and panic disorder.

All testing is carried out in line with relevant platform specific guidelines, and where applicable, conforms with The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. Testing also conforms to Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Expert Review

Not part of this accreditation was Levels 2 (Working) and 3 (Practitioner), which also passed an Expert Technical Review by the DAC.

List of issues

There are limitations to the platform this e-learning was built in.

  • After quiz results are submitted, new content is added to the page and focus is not taken to the start of this content.
  • Accordion components are by default marked-up at heading level two. These levels cannot be adjusted to reflect a correct heading structure.
  • Some components are labelled by default and cannot be re-labelled to add additional text to make them more descriptive. For example, 'click to flip' and 'play' buttons.
  • There are form groups are not marked-up as groups with group labels
  • On the module overview pages there are 'One Big Thing: Data Training for all Civil Servants' logos which to not have text alternatives and are hidden from screen reading software
  • When the page is viewed as a single column at 320px, some of the video controls (the volume and full screen buttons) are lost
